Camelot is a mysterious
and rather bizarre place that can only be found during the last weekend of August in the small farming
town of Schwenksville Pennsylvania. Camelot has appeared in the same field in this
small town for the last 21 years.
Each year Camelot has grown
larger and more entertaining. Camelot is not an apparition, no...it is an encampment
inhabited by a strange and growing (36 and counting) population who possess an almost cult
like devotion to a shrub. Each year as this greenery grows so do the structures the
both protect and amuse these odd creatures. One has to wonder if their is a
connection between the two?
These citizens of Camelot
are not the only beings to appear. Many others come to Schwenksville to
celebrate and enjoy the many different music's the world has to offer. Though they
only remain in this location for a few days their spirit survives until they can again
return and begin the process anew.
Each year this strange group is called upon to return to a farmers
field. They travel many miles (some more than others) to join in the festivities....
the consumption of spirits and other strange substances........to revel in the sounds of
music........to worship the gods of the port-o-potty.........to stay up and
celebrate the night and maybe the dawn........but mostly to enjoy the
company of old friends an d the hopes of meeting new ones.
No one has been able to explain all the
unique rituals associated with residing in Camelot. These include the wearing of different
types of hats all bearing their name. (These hats are given as rewards for
telling jokes) And some very bizarre types of ritual dancing. There are
many different reasons given for Camelot's behavior. Some attribute it to
alcohol, others blame the heat, and still other just believe they are
strange and there is no reason for what they do. We just don't know (and
we at Camelot really don't care.....we like it !). Visit our campsite and
come to your own conclusions

Camelot may only exist for
a few days every year in the farmer's field but it survives and prospers in
the mind and hearts of all who reside their. The friendships we
build there survive the difficulties of time and distance.
This is what makes Camelot a truly special place. It is
not just a campsite....it is a state of mind |
